Best Strollers for City Apartments in 2026: A Real Parent's Guide

Our first “apartment stroller” lived in the hallway because the folded frame was too wide for the closet. That was the whole lesson: folded shape beats marketing photos.
Below are six strollers that pass the apartment-friendly filter on babypickr.com, with real weights and prices from our catalog. Use the decision tree if you want a fast answer; read the cards if you want the why. When you are ready to narrow the list, use our gear finder (no sign-up).
We've recently added premium brands like Nuna, UPPAbaby, and Bugaboo to our catalog through ANB Baby, an authorized retailer. These brands aren't always available on Amazon. For those picks we link directly to ANB Baby.
What to Check Before You Buy
Folded footprint.Measure your closet depth and elevator width, then compare to the manufacturer's folded dimensions. Self-standing folds are easier to park in a hallway without tipping over.
Carry weight. You will haul this up stairs and into rideshares. Under 20 lbs is comfortable for daily carry; the Metro 3 at 21.6 lbs is the heaviest we still recommend here.
One-hand fold with a baby on your hip.Try the fold in store with one hand. If it takes two hands and three steps, you will hate it at every subway entrance.
Handlebar height.Compact strollers often run short. If either parent is over 5'10", push it for one block before you buy.
The Best City Apartment Strollers in 2026
Ranked for apartment life. Specs match our gear finder.

Bugaboo Butterfly 2
The Butterfly folds in about a second into a self-standing bundle you can park beside the door. Adjustable handlebar at 17.6 lbs is rare. Suspension is good enough for cracked sidewalks, not for gravel trails. If you only buy one city stroller and you are not flying every month, start here.

Cybex Libelle 2 Travel Stroller
At 13.7 lbs this is the lightest stroller on our list. Folded, it is backpack-sized, which matters in a Lyft trunk or a shallow closet. Car seat adapters get you from newborn age; the seat itself is really a 6-month-and-up ride. We would pick this when every pound counts more than handlebar height.

Stokke YOYO3 Stroller
The YOYO3 still folds flat enough for overhead bins, and the one-hand fold is real on a curb with one arm around a baby. At about $399 it is the carry-on stroller we see most in airport lines. Worth it if you fly with the stroller several times a year. Skip it if you are tall and never leave the borough.

Ergobaby Metro 3
Most compact strollers make tall parents hunch. The Metro 3 does not, and it lies flat for newborns without buying a bassinet add-on. The tradeoff is weight: 21.6 lbs is a lot on a walk-up. Choose this when height and day-one newborn use matter more than shaving five pounds.

Silver Cross Clic
The Clic lies flat from birth with the newborn apron in the box, at 13.9 lbs. Cabin-approved fold and UPF 50+ canopy make it a plausible only stroller for year one if you travel and you are not over 6 ft. Handlebar is standard height, so tall partners should try it before committing.

Doona Car Seat & Stroller
The Doona is an infant car seat with wheels built in. Click it out of the base, wheels deploy, you push. No seat-to-stroller transfer in the back of a cab. That is the whole point. It tops out around 35 lbs and 32 inches, so plan a second stroller later. At 17.2 lbs it is still the fastest answer for daily rideshare life with a newborn.
Strollers to Avoid for City Apartments
Most jogging strollers. Wide wheelbase, heavy frame, awkward fold. Fine for parks, miserable in elevators. Guava Roam is the rare jogger that still folds small enough for some apartment storage.
Double strollers.Even “compact” doubles fight narrow sidewalks and small elevators. Only worth it if you truly need two seats daily.
Full-size frames over 25 lbs. Usable in a city, but you pay in your shoulders. UPPAbaby Cruz V3 (25.5 lbs) is the usual exception if you need a reversible seat and can store it.
